Skatepark
Mette Ingvartsen

Legend has it that skateboarding was born when low waves forced surfers out of the water and onto the tarmac in Los Angeles. Since then, skateboarding has developed into a unique choreography. It plays with the surfaces of our cities and appropriates public spaces with daring tricks. And now finally, this movement art is also conquering the theatre: together with a group of skaters and dancers, choreographer Mette Ingvartsen transforms the Frankfurt LAB into a skate park. She adds clickflips, 180s and boardslides to the usual dance vocabulary – a vivid reminder of her youth, when she was a skater herself. The energetic performance playfully pushes the boundaries of what is possible and creates a utopian community in which the differences between skateboarding and dance, between high culture and subculture, theatre and street no longer play a role.
