Gustaf Gründgens / Shame Shame Shame!
Stück von Lisa Heinrici und Gil Hoz-Klemme

In 1963, the first and last television interview was broadcast with actor and director Gustaf Gründgens, who has been described both as a “Nazi pactivist” and as a “theatrical genius”. In “Gustaf Gründgens / Shame! Shame! Shame!” two performers embody this same interview in its full length and try to reproduce the linguistic idiosyncrasies, the pauses and the mistakes as accurately as possible in order to revive the material. During the course of the reenactment, they repeatedly interrupt the interview to reflect on (West) German theatre heritage, the ideas of “good” theatre based on it and ultimately also on themselves in comments addressed to the audience. Gründgens becomes paradigmatic for the conflicting fields of theatre and politics, as well as the culture of remembrance in Germany. Produced in a cooperation between the Directing and Acting Department of the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main and the Mousonturm as part of the Hessian Theatre Academy.
