The Importance of Non-Dramaturgy Studies for a Dramaturg is a reflection on the significance of studies tangential to - or detached from - the field of dramaturgy for a dramaturg or a playwright. I will consider how my work as a dramaturg and a writer has been affected by past learning in a completely unrelated discipline. I will also reflect on my first semester at Helsinki Uniarts’ Theatre Academy, where the curriculum included, besides the core disciplines of dramaturgy and writing, studies of slightly more uncommon subjects. I would also like to hear from the other participants - what do the studies in dramaturgy entail elsewhere in Europe? What are the actual nuts and bolts when studying to be a dramaturg?
