Sanctuary
Brett Bailey & Third World Bunfight
“SANCTUARY” is a virtual journey in the surreal terrain of the crisis-ridden EU, in which racism and populism are on the rise, while surveillance and border controls are being rigorously expanded. In a two-year research phase, which Brett Bailey carried out in refugee camps across Europe, he developed iconic scenarios that speak both of the realities and states of limbo that many refugees and migrants experience daily, as well as depicting the delusions of those EU citizens, who fear them. In his walk-in installation “SANCTUARY”, a prison-like labyrinth with performers from countries in the Near East, Africa, Europe and from Frankfurt, the audience encounters the stories of refugees, migrants, activists and translators.
