The project ›Akademie Musiktheater heute‹ is a programme with
which the Deutsche Bank Foundation fosters young talents in musical theatre. Every year, 15 fellowships are awarded to stage and costume designers, conductors, dramaturges, composers, cultural managers, librettists/writers and stage directors. The two-year programme includes regular workshops, attendance at selected productions of European opera houses and festivals, as well as the joint development of a musical theatre piece at the end of the fellowship. For the first time, the ›Akademie Musiktheater heute‹ joins forces with Ensemble Modern. Together, the Ensemble Modern musicians and singers of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts will work with the fellowship class of 2017-19 on three musical theatre works which will have their world premieres on November 21, 2019 during the ›Akademie Musiktheater heute‹ ceremony at the Frankfurt LAB. From three different perspectives, the young artists approach the subject of the ›ménage-à-trois‹, creating a kaleidoscope of contemporary musical theatre formats. Ensemble Modern asked each of the three teams ten questions about their approach to this project, their collaboration and expectations.
