Wie Frei Ist Die Kunst?
– Wie Frei Sind Ensembles?

Ensemble Modern

Art and culture in times of social upheavals

In the concert series ›Wie frei ist die Kunst?‹ (How free is art?), Ensemble Modern addresses the question of the liberty of the arts, and its limitations, through music and discourse. Together with experts from various fields, the question how free and independent the arts can be in times of social upheaval and challenges will be examined. Central issues include: what is permitted to the arts? Where are their boundaries? What responsibilities do they have? How inviolable is the right to artistic freedom? Moderated conversations and the performance of exemplary works of music will illuminate these burning questions of cultural and social policy. The series approaches the topic from the perspective of presenters, ensembles and composers. The series of events takes place in Frankfurt am Main and Cologne.
