Driften bis wir Wasser sind
Greta Katharina Klein

We ask: “When were you born? Before the flood? Or after the flood?”

The multisensory performance "Driften bis wir Wasser sind" explores the phenomenon of floods. The starting point of the performance is the gap between scientific flood warnings and human reactions to them: the flood only becomes real when chaos unfolds. The flood takes center stage and shapes the evening. The audience experiences a submerged landscape where nothing obeys, yet everything flows.

We whisper: “The flood is coming. The flood is not coming. The flood is coming. The flood is not coming.”

Greta Katharina Klein and her team examine the temporality of the flood: What is the relationship between the eruptive force of the flood and the duration of its aftermath? Which stories endure beyond the flood, and which vanish?
They explore its spatial dynamics: How do we experience dissolution?
They investigate our social relationship with the flood: How do we understand the tension between individual and collective responsibility when it comes to disaster warnings?

"Driften bis wir Wasser sind" is an artistic reflection on the relationship between humans and nature in the context of ecological crises. On stage, the loss of orientation in darkness will be tried; there will be a sound installation of voices, which spread out and flow into each other; a food-doll will be activated, which allows a physical experience of the flood. Klein and her team invite the audience to be an essential part of the system, to experience the collaboration of different actors of nature in the theatre space.

Content Notes & Sensory Information:
The piece deals with floods and therefore portrays disaster scenarios. There will be prolonged periods of darkness. Objects will move close to the audience, but will not touch them. At two points, video projections become very bright. Audience members sensitive to this can notify us in advance and will be assigned seats where they will not be exposed to the light.
